I have always been drawn to the beach and the ocean. As a child, my family had a beach home and we spent much time there. I remember getting up early in the mornings before everyone else and riding my bike down to the inlet. I would sit there, alone, on the rocks and read. Watching the waves splash up all around my feet was so soothing.
I visited my daughter in Florida last week and the first thing we did, was go to the beach. It was a hazy day and there weren't many people there. As I lay on the sand next to her, with my eyes closed, I felt the presence of God all around me. He was in the waves I could hear crashing to shore. He was in the soulful cry of the seagulls. He was in the warm gentle breeze that lightly skimmed my body.
I said to my daughter, "Honey, God is in this." She asked what I meant. I told her to close her eyes and feel and listen. Everything that we could feel and hear, was untouched by man, exactly as it was created by God to be. It was powerful, it was palatable. I took so many pictures of waves and seagulls and piers. When I got home and uploaded all of the photos, I couldn't bring myself to delete a single one of them...because He was in them. Each one was a different creation of God that I had captured for all of eternity.
I know my heart will always be drawn to the ocean. It's the place where I have happy childhood memories. It's where I know I'll feel God's presence and it's where I feel the most peace and joy. Where do you go where you feel God all around you, sacred and untouched? What special place brings you closer to Him? Tell me about the place your heart is drawn towards!
I don't usually do this, but I'm going to post some of my pics for you to enjoy. I hope you like them. It's not the same as being there to hear the waves crashing and the seagulls yelling, or to smell the salt air, and feel the warm breeze caress your skin. But I hope you enjoy them!

Beautiful post Erin... your heart is all over it... so is HE. Loved this... "Everything that we could feel and hear, was untouched by man, exactly as it was created by God to be." That gave me chills as I read it. Just beautiful. Blessings!

Great post Erin! I wish I could think so "deep" it's beautiful to look beyond what is on the surface. Truly an inspiration, and I want to go to the beach and just lay on the sand with my eyes closed.

Erin, this is so beautiful. I, too, feel like the ocean is sort of my way to escape with God. There's such beauty and peace when I'm sitting there listening to the waves crash against the shore. It's something I deeply miss about not living in California anymore. Now in PA, God escapes with me into nature in other forms. There's so much beauty here that I've never been able to experience before. I guess you can say, the Master is molding me into a more well rounded person. Lol! :) Have a great Mother's Day weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
~Rosann
Rosann, as you know, I'm from Pgh! PA is such a beautiful state and I know that you can experience His presence there!

I want you to know how much your posts mean to me. Life has been busy lately and I got about a month behind on my normal online reading. Sitting in the hospital with my wife after two surgeries in five days, listening to her cry in pain most of the evening and night, I read this and looked at your pictures of this truly peaceful place.
ReplyDeleteThis tough "nothing affects me" man can"t stop crying now.
My wife spent her early years on the gulf coast and we went to Padre Island for our honeymoon. She is expected to make a full recovery and as soon as possible we will be making a trip to find our own quiet spot on the beach.
Thank you

Chuck, first let me say that I'm so glad that your wife will make a full recovery! What a blessing. Secondly, I'm glad that you will get to spend time away together just being in touch with each other and with the Lord. Lastly, I'm so honored by your kind words about my blog. I'm grateful that you visit here!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
~Erin
PS You just cry all that you need to. Those are healing tears!
I feel like that too Erin. I love this post and I really enjoy the beach when its not beach season. To go there an walk on it without all the "summer fuss" makes me feel close to God too. I've always lived in coastal places and I can't imagine what it would be like to see the beach for the first time because I am still always awestruck at its awesome massive beauty. I feel that way about flying too. I don't "love" flying on airplanes. I always pray before I get one but when flying low and seeing the earth below I get the same feeling of how awesome God is.
ReplyDeleteKenya, isn't it amazing to contemplate God's presence in our world? We take so much for granted, but when we take the time to look, listen, touch and smell the world around us, we can see Him in so many things!
DeleteThank you for stopping by!
Blessings,
~Erin
What a great talent you have, I just love these pictures and I'm glad you decided to share them!

Ah yes, one of the many reasons I love living here in Florida! There is something so magical and God-like in the ocean; any time I need a "reminder" or a chance to reconnect with the Source, I head to the beach :-)
ReplyDeleteJenn, I'm jealous that you can go to the beach anytime! It never ceases to fill me with awe at the mighty works of His creation!
DeleteBlessings,
~Erin
I miss being able to get up and go to the beach. I used to live ON the beach and, in the wee hours, standing on the sand looking at an approaching storm, it never ceased to amaze me that this is the creation of a miraculous God.
ReplyDeleteYou lived ON the beach...that must have been almost heaven! It is miraculous, isn't it?!
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Jacqueline!
Blessings,
~Erin
Beautiful! We are headed to the beach (Lake Erie) in just a couple weeks. My favorite thing is standing on the beach watching the sunset. Oh - the artwork of God.
ReplyDeleteAudra, I used to go to Lake Erie as a child. I loved it there. I hope you get to take in a lot of sunsets while you are there and enjoy His artwork.
