The Best Season

I'm going to tell you why winter is my favorite time of year.  Everything is so cold and crisp.  Faces are shiny and red while snowmen and snow forts are being built.  Sled riding and ice skating become the favorite pastime for kids having their beloved snow days.  There are crackling fires, roasted marshmallows,  hot chocolate and cuddling.  The smell of holiday candles fill the air and decorations go up everywhere!  Then, there is Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and friends...and all of the hustle and bustle that goes along with the holidays.  The parties...oh, the parties with all of the recipes, food, eggnog and warm apple cider.  For us, winter is a time of family traditions and joyfully remembering those who are not here anymore to celebrate with us, but their presence is so keenly felt.  And the Christmas music, how we love the Christmas music!   Yes, winter is definitely my most favorite time of year.

Now I'm going to tell you why spring is my favorite time of year.  It is a time of all things new...love, flowers, trees, marriages!!  The rain makes everything fresh, clean and lovely.  And then, the planting begins.  One of my most passionate hobbies is growing things.  I have ruined many a manicured nail working in the garden.  I love to take photos of nature, and spring is the absolute best time to do that.  Everyone is coming out of hibernation from the winter and turning their faces towards the sun or taking cover from a spring shower.  The golfers and jogging enthusiasts come to life and exercise regimines take hold in earnest.  The grill is fired up and evenings on the deck begin with friends, wine and cigars.  Then there are the little girls in their Easter dresses!!  Nothing is more precious than that!  Yes, spring is definitely my most favorite time of year.

Summer is my favorite time of year, and I'll tell you why.  There's the lake and the beach and water skiing,   Laying in the sun and feeling the warmth tickle my skin as I sip on some home brewed iced tea with fresh mint leaves is pure heaven.  The garden is ripe with luscious vegetables.   The kids are home from school and so excited about the possibilities of the next couple of months. We travel all around town to the venues holding outdoor concerts, taking chairs, food and wine, meeting up with friends and dancing the night away!  My husband and I love to take day trips to our local wineries and town festivals and get to know the people of Oklahoma.  Then there are the 4th of July picnics and fireworks, watching the little ones with sparklers dressed in their red, white and blue outfits.  Oh yes, summer is definitely my favorite time of year.

Do you know why fall is my favorite time of year?  The colors...oh my...the colors.  The turning leaves are one of the most beautiful sights that I could be privileged to observe.  The air is starting to turn crisp and the sweaters come out of their boxes.  How I love sweaters!!  Then, there are the football games.  You can't be from Pittsburgh and not love football!  Nothing is sweeter than getting together with a group of friends around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and laughing!  The kids are anxious to get back to school and see their friends who they have missed all summer and their stream of endless extra curricular activities begins.  There are parades and homecoming celebrations and did I mention the sweaters?  Fall is a time where excitement seems to be building and friendships blossoming.  Umm hmm, fall is definitely my favorite time of year.
So there you have it.  Winter, spring, summer and fall are all my favorite times of the year.  What I've learned, is that is seems as though as each season quietly fades into the next, I'm ready for it to be a new season...therefore, it becomes my most favorite season at the time.  How perfect is that.  God knew just what we would need and when we would need it.  I guess that's why He's God and I'm not!  Yes, every season is my favorite time of the year!

  3. I absolutely love fall. The beauty of the leaves turning colors. The smell of autumn and the crunching of leaves under my feet. The weather is just right for walks in the evening.
