Faith

Why does excercising faith often feel like being surrounded by darkness? Growing up, we had a poster in our house that said "Faith is walking to the edge of all the light you have and taking one more step". There could not be a truer statement.

Taking that next step can be both frightening and exhilarating. I remember taking a leadership ropes course, where I had to trust in my team to catch me as we went through several excercises. The purpose was to see if we had enough trust and faith in each other to just let go. Several of us cried, closed our eyes and went for it. Others never could take that leap. Some didn't seem apprehensive at all and they jumped, before we were ready to catch them. Thank heaven God is always ready to catch us when we blunder uncautiously ahead, as well as when we timidly step out in faith.

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have - having faith means one of two things:

1. There will be something solid for you to put your feet on when you step into the dark, or

2. You will be taught how to fly.

So, if you are sensing that the Lord is leading you to new unchartered waters or if circumstances have brought you to the edge of all the light you have, go ahead and take that next step of faith and know that He is there to be a firm place to put your foot, or to launch you out to your next adventure together!
