The Road Before Us

As I sit here in the dark, listening to the soft piano music of Jim Brickman, I cannot sleep.  I have come to a place in my heart where I know that the Lord has shared a truth with me.  During my quiet time earlier, I was reading the Psalms and came across a passage that I have known all my life; recited since I was a child.  But at that moment when I read those same beloved words, they dropped from my head down into my heart...becoming revelation knowlege.  They became a truth to me as surely as I know my own name.

It doesn't matter which Scripture it was.  It was between me and the Lord.  It was a thing about which I had  been questioning Him, wondering about for a while.  And there it was, right there in that verse.  And instantly I knew that He had tried to show me before...so many times...He had laid it plainly before me.  But I didn't take heed.  I didn't pay attention to the red flag that had been waving in my spirit.  You know, that which the world calls intuition, but we call the Holy Spirit.  Instead, I chose to think I knew better than what He was trying to show me.  So as He tried over and over to caution me, I turned aside and did not listen.

Because of my disobedience to heed what He was telling me, I am now walking a down a path that He did not intend for me to have to walk.  But here I am.  I'm not angry though, because He is right here walking with me.  He is not saying, "I told you so."  He is gently saying, "Daughter, you chose this path and now we will walk it out together until we can get back on the road I had intended for you."  I guess it's a detour of sorts.  One that will find me wiser and stronger and more willing to listen to Him in the still of the night when He speaks to my heart.

It will just be a slight adjustment in my heart; a shifting in the way that I think about something.  It is a very small thing that could be life altering if I am going to be obedient.  That's the thing about a holy truth making it's way into my spirit, I must obey.  It is a choice that will make my detour shorter, sweeter and bring me closer to Him.

Joy on the right road
Dear One, if He is speaking a truth to your heart and you are too busy to listen and take heed, you may find yourself on a road that you did not ask for; a road you would rather not walk.  He is a good Father and He will stay by our side, never leaving or forsaking us, no matter the road we choose.  But oh, to save ourselves the heartache of not listening as He tries to direct and guide our footsteps.  Whatever path you choose, walk it with Him, fellowshiping with Him as you go so that you end up fulfilling the dream that He has for you.

From His Lap,
