Beautiful Memories

How People See Me
My family likes to make fun of me because of my incessant picture taking.  It doesn't matter what we are doing, I'm always shooting photos or videos of it.  To me, life is about creating memories, sharing laughs, crying together, watching babies smile, seeing them take their first steps, graduations, silly moments with our girlfriends and precious days with family and friends.  At the end of my days, I want to have a record of touching people in a way that has made their lives sweeter and fuller and bulging with love! One of the ways I do that is by taking pictures that they can treasure forever.

Waiting for baby!
That's why I take pictures, and lots of them.  There are moments and facial expressions and joys that I never want to forget.  My computer monitor plays thousands of photos in a continuous slideshow at my house.  When family and friends come over, they are mesmerized by them.  They sit and stare and laugh or cry at memories they had forgotten about that appear right there on the screen.

At the Lake With My Love
I also love to make photo books of special occasions and trips and beautiful days and give them as gifts. If we don't have memories of the sweetness of life in photos and written word then we tend to forget how intense the sweetness was.  I love the silly times, the romantic times, the dress up times, the camping times, the ordinary days.  A video of my grand baby taking a bath can bring a hundred smiles.

Now, I know there was a day when people didn't have cameras or cell phones or video recorders, and they still had lots of happy memories.  But why not make the memories a lasting record of your life?  Why not have a way for your children's children to see how much living there was to your life?

Celebration With Precious Friends
So, I don't care if people laugh at me for always having my camera out or if they don't think a picture of them came out perfectly.  I do it for the life, the memory and the joy of the moment!  You don't need to have an expensive camera to take pictures.  You can use your cell phone to record precious moments. Just do it!  Make memories and make a record of them, so you never forget those moments!

  1. What a wonderful piece :) I wish I always had a camera with me, unfortunately I take most pics on my cell phone. They all laughed at me when I took 200 pics of my son's prom but I wanted to catch every moment. I commend you for always capturing the moments and wish I did more. I think I may try harder because its great to always look back :) Thank You I enjoyed your post.

  3. You have just given me some insight into my husband. He takes 100s of pics on every event. And that can be in an afternoon. I always think that he's too focused on creating the memories, instead of living in the moment (something I don't do anyway, can't seem to, with a camera or not, even just sitting and watching TV. Heavy sigh). But to him I guess he's drinking in the present via his camera - and getting to experience it twice. Thank you.

    1. Keesha, your husband and I would make great friends!! I know just how he feels. Somehow, when I have a camera in my hand, I notice and pick up on things I wouldn't normally see. Just let him keep taking the pics and you'll get to enjoy them later!!
      Blessings,
      ~Erin

  4. Never stop capturing those moments and continue making memories! I am constantly taking pics and video on my camera and when I don't have that, I am thankful that my cell phone takes equally good pics and video!

  5. Through your lenses, you are able to capture life's every precious moment. Without your photos, those moments will just be forgotten. Keep at it, because what you have is a gift.

  6. I'm the same - I love taking photos - especially of my kids and the scenery I see when I go hiking. And I always just use a simple point and shoot camera - nothing extravagant at all:)
    Thanks for sharing your pictures,
    Kristina :)

    1. I had the best point and shoot for years. It took wonderful pictures. It finally broke last year so I was forced to learn how to use my Nikon D7000.
      Thanks for stopping by, Kristina!

  7. I really want to have a nice camera (I don't have one at all right now. :( ) but I'm big about catching the ordinary on my cell phone. In fact most of my blog pics are things I took with my phone. :)

  8. I agree with you on the memory making. My first child has 2 scrapbooks and a journal (made & written by me). My second child has suffered a little...she only has one scrapbook, but I have put more into her journal.

My camera broke :) and I really need to invest in another one, because I have missed quite a few moments lately.

    Stopping by from VoiceBoks!

    1. Laura, thanks for stopping by! Don't you just love voiceBoks? You better get another camera soon. My 2nd child is 27 yrs old and he still complains that I didn't take as many pics of him as I took of the first one! LOL

  9. Erin, this reminds me of when I was a kid and my sibs & I would complain that mom always wants a picture. But then when then pics came in the mail (as they did back then!) we'd pour over them again and again. Aww...the power of a camera!

btw, which photo printer do you recommend? The downside of digital is all my pics are stuck in the computer!

    1. I have a Mac. When I order prints on the Mac, it doesn't say where they come from. The return address is Mac in California. They must have their own printing shop. They are awesome prints! Shutterfly does a pretty good job too and they often run specials. I hope that helps, Nan!

  11. Erin, I just know if you and I were ever to meet in person we'd both have our camera's handy to capture every beautiful moment and memory! In fact, we'd probably have a photo album shoved in our purse to quickly whip out and share the love of our family with the other. Lol! I can so relate to this post. I'm a picture taking mama for sure!!

    Hugs to you sweet friend,
