If you've been following along with my blog, you know that the Lord has been speaking to my heart over the past several months about staying close to Him, pressing in, hiding in the cleft of His love. Today as I was spending time with Him, I had a thought flash through me that caught me completely off guard and made me realize the importance of spending time with Him daily.
This is what I heard in my spirit. "I will give you grace sufficient to get through the day." Do you hear what I heard? "I will give you grace sufficient to get through the day." I caught myself smiling. "Oh, God," I thought, "you are a jealous God. You want me to come back tomorrow and the next day and the next. You want me to spend time with you each day, fellowshipping with you, getting enough grace, sufficient for that day." You see, dear one, we were created solely to have fellowship with Him and that's all He wants from us. From the very beginning, He wanted to walk with Adam in the cool of the evening, through the garden, every day!
He will give us the grace to get through today and then He wants us to come back tomorrow and spend more precious time with Him. If He gave us all the grace we needed in one fell swoop, we would have no need of more grace and we wouldn't return to our First Love! My pastor talks about how we take showers and baths and get all shiny and clean, but by the next day, we need another shower. This must be what he means! We need to return to the One who makes us clean, makes us holy, gives us grace every day.
I thought about how five of my six children are grown and off doing their own thing. How I long for the days when they come to visit me. How I get so excited when they show up at my door or when my phone rings and their name shows up on the caller ID. Is that how my heavenly Father feels when I show up at His throne and ask to get in His lap?
What a precious thing He showed me. He let me know that He loves me so much that He wants me to spend time with Him every day. He wants to give me what I need each day, to make it through whatever comes my way and He wants to bless me with His presence and His grace. I know of no other king who will do that for his people.
I can promise you this; if you make time for Him each day, your life will grow sweeter and you will begin to notice Him all around you as you walk throughout your day. And when the tough times come, you will feel His strength and His guidance, because you have spent time with Him soaking up His glory and His grace!
From His Lap,
Hi Erin - my life at the moment is hectic and in my morning quiet time (which I haven't had in a while) I determined to start each day in the week to come, with Jesus in my quiet time and trust Him that He will make a way to get through the rest. Such a confirming post. His grace is sufficient for today.

Very good word, Erin. I'm sitting here this morning, spending an hour on my laptop before church, catching up on stuff. The Lord's word coming through you to me is really moving me to action, because I really spend so little time with Him each day. Is it any wonder, especially as I attempt to work an 11-hour day job and be a writer at the same time, that I feel as if I'm drowning most of the time? Thank you for this post.
ReplyDeleteTake care and have a great day!

Tracy,
ReplyDeleteI know life gets so hectic & then we look back and think when was the last time I spent with the Lord! I will pray for your week, that you have the time to spend with Him each day!
Blessings,
~Erin
Jimmy,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time to visit here before going to church. Wow, 11 hr shifts! The Lord knows how hard you are working and He knows your heart. I pray that you find enough time each day to let Him pour grace into your heart!!
Blessings,
~Erin

Precious wisdom--yes, I think you've hit the nail on the head. He could easily have given us all we need forever, but He knew how very independent is my heart and that I must constantly be reminded that my very breath is a gift. Thank you for such a lovely post. :)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the song that goes, "And step by step You lead me...and I will follow You all of my days."
ReplyDeleteGrace enough for today...The journey is one step at a time. =)
Thank you!
Anne,
ReplyDeleteThat was so well said! He knows we are fickle and He is jealous for our hearts! I will remember that my very breath is a gift!
Blessings,
~Erin
TJ,
ReplyDeleteI love that song! How are you, my friend? I know you are walking your journey one step at a time.
Blessings,
~Erin
Your analogy of how excited you get when you hear from you children, is perfect. You always have good analogies and I am a person that responds well to those! You are such a gifted spiritual writer, you really know how to reach people and make the message clear. Thank you again!
ReplyDeleteerin, you are absolutely right. whether times are hectic and trying, or absolutely wonderful, if we take the time to pray and take in all our surroundings, we feel so much more at peace. there are so many little things throughout the day that make me stop and think...and thank God.

Erin, this reminds me of the Christian song, Your grace is enough by Matt Maher. That song is on my iPod on my half-marathon playlist as a reminder to me when I'm out running off the aggression of our troubles...that I need to lean into God. He is sufficient. He is all I need.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you compare the visits you get with your children to the time we give to God...our Father. Such a powerful way of looking at the relationship we have with our Creator. Another great nugget of truth! :)
Blessings my sweet friend,
Rosann

ReplyDeleteI wish I could run a marathon with you! Wouldn't that be fun! Yes, I get so excited when I get a visit from my children. I know our heavenly Father is the same when He gets a visit from one of His kids!! Woo hoo!!!
Love you, sister!
~Erin
Beautiful, Erin! I never thought of it that way. Absolutely true! I need to think of how I feel about my children and remind myself that God loves us even more than we can possibly love our own children. How much He must want our time, our attention, and our love. This has given me so much to think about! Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenn!
ReplyDeleteHe just wants us to acknowledge Him in all our ways, the be thankful and come to Him with our joys and our heartbreaks!!
Love you, sister!
~Erin

You are right, no matter what is happening in our lives we need to make time for God. It doesn't matter if it's 2 minutes or 2 hours, any time spent with Him during the day is time well spent.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Heather. He is hungry to spend time with us! And the more time we do spend with Him, the more we are grateful for the blessings He's given us!
