It doesn't matter which Scripture it was. It was between me and the Lord. It was a thing about which I had been questioning Him, wondering about for a while. And there it was, right there in that verse. And instantly I knew that He had tried to show me before...so many times...He had laid it plainly before me. But I didn't take heed. I didn't pay attention to the red flag that had been waving in my spirit. You know, that which the world calls intuition, but we call the Holy Spirit. Instead, I chose to think I knew better than what He was trying to show me. So as He tried over and over to caution me, I turned aside and did not listen.
Because of my disobedience to heed what He was telling me, I am now walking a down a path that He did not intend for me to have to walk. But here I am. I'm not angry though, because He is right here walking with me. He is not saying, "I told you so." He is gently saying, "Daughter, you chose this path and now we will walk it out together until we can get back on the road I had intended for you." I guess it's a detour of sorts. One that will find me wiser and stronger and more willing to listen to Him in the still of the night when He speaks to my heart.
It will just be a slight adjustment in my heart; a shifting in the way that I think about something. It is a very small thing that could be life altering if I am going to be obedient. That's the thing about a holy truth making it's way into my spirit, I must obey. It is a choice that will make my detour shorter, sweeter and bring me closer to Him.

From His Lap,
Very relevant. Thank you. I've been forwarding your posts to my husband.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to stop by, Janice. I hope that my posts bless your husband! I appreciate you!

Such a beautiful post! It is so very important for us to be open to HIS guidance and follow where HE leads us. Often we try to follow our own path and find ourselves lost trying to get back on HIS path. Loved this! ~Love & Hugs, Mitzi
ReplyDeleteOh Mitzi, you are so right. It was just a simple adjustment He showed me that I needed to make in my attitude. I chose to ignore Him and I'm now walking out the consequences of that. I could have saved myself a lot of heartache. But, I've learned. I will never ignore again!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. You are a blessing.
~Erin
Mind meld! LOL I have post on roads as well. Don't you just love it when the Spirit explodes a verse in your heart? Whew! Such love! Great post, sweetie!
ReplyDeleteYes, that is my favorite time with God...when His Word sinks down in my heart and I know that I know that I know...
ReplyDeleteLove you, Lynn!

I think because of impatience we tend to run off course in life. I have made many of those decisions. Thankfully as you said He is with us on the paths we take to bring us back on the road that He wanted us to explore in the first place! Patience and Faith will bring the right spouse, the right home, the right love, all of it if we could just wait and listen! Hope you get the G+ issue fixed soon. Thank you for your post Erin! Visiting from VoiceBoks!

What a wonderful truth...He is with us regardless of the path, but taken His chosen road makes the journey more pleasant! I love you, friend...and the fact that you are listening to the Lord and sharing what you are learning!
ReplyDeleteGood words! I enjoy reading your posts and how you share from your heart. It is always easier to obey the first time, but so comforting to know that He never leaves us even in the detour.
ReplyDeleteDianne, being vulnerable and sharing my mistakes is the only way I know how to be. I'm so grateful to have friends like you who I can be vulnerable with. It makes life easier!
ReplyDeleteI love you so much!
~Erin
Thank you, Sharla! Oh that we could get it right the first time, huh!? But that's what life is, twists and turns and learning. I'm so glad my posts bless you! XO

Erin, it is simply human to question but the important thing is that at the end of the day we trust God. You are such a wonderful person and have touched my life immensely. Just wanted to share with you that I had family over Saturday that I have missed spending time with a lot and it was safe and fun nd wonderful. My uncle and cousin are both Pastors, maybe at some point we can visit the church. Love to you!
ReplyDeleteOh Karen, my heart lept for joy when I read your words! I'm so happy that you were able to spend time with family. And you enjoyed it. God is so faithful! And maybe...just maybe...you can go to church!
ReplyDeleteI love you, Karen!

ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful how the Lord leads us to people, Becky Jane! I love it!
ReplyDelete~Erin
Thank you for sharing that even though we don't always "obey" that God never, ever forsake us. We "know" it, but I, myself at times lose sight of that.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by, Kristin. I hope to be able to remember to listen to that still small voice a little better now!

Only the best Father allows his child to make their own mistakes and stands by to pick up the pieces when they fall. That's why I love Him.
ReplyDeleteAnd Becky Jane you are absolutely right.Of the thousands of people on Twitter I could have met I found Erin and for that I'll always be truly grateful. Smiles and hugs to you all! Lorraine
He is such a good Father, isn't He, Lorraine! He loves enough to give us free will and then stick around when we choose something destructive.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your very kind words. They made me cry. I write this blog to be an instrument of the Lord; to bless people!
Thank you so much for your friendship!

This is a beautiful life with that Understanding. I'm grateful to have my footsteps guided (and re-routed!) and to know He'll guide my kid's, too. He's faithful when we are not. So grateful.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Susan...so grateful for that! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

It is so encouraging to know that even when we don't listen, and go down a path he didn't intend He is right here walking with us. Learning obedience saves us pain, but God can use even our mistakes to refine us and draw us back to Him. Thank you for your encouraging words.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing from your heart. It is so comforting knowing that the Lord is always with us, even when we take a different path. I'm following now too. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Rachel
Rachel, Thanks so much for stopping by! He is so faithful, isn't He!? I'd be lost down some garden path without Him!

Your stories inspire me to be closer to my Lord. Every road is part of the plan, detour or no and all are tolerable with God's unwavering love.
ReplyDeleteEach path makes us better if we allow it, doesn't it, Amberr. I was so happy to see that you visited here!

What a great post! We can all be a bit stubborn sometimes, can't we? Our lives would be so much better if we just "listened" to Him. But, alas, we are human. Following you now from voiceBoks.com Hopper Strategized. Have a great weekend!

Melinda, It's good to see you here! There's not one of us who hasn't made decisions that took us away, but He walks with us every step of the way and somehow used the road we choose to make us better people!
ReplyDeleteYou bless me!

This is so very powerful, Erin! And you are right--we don't get to skip any of the lessons He has for us. We stay in that spot until we listen, learn, and obey. I love how you explain the consequences of our wrong choices--His Faithfulness will not allow Him to abandon us--even when we disobey. What a Loving, Merciful Father! Powerful!!! Thank you so very much for linking up! It will bless everyone who reads it. :)
